Screenshots published in the international media are awful. A bridge collapsed completely in the port city of Manta Guayaquilit and the airport was forced to close after damage to the control tower. About 10,000 troops and 3,500 police are being deployed in the affected areas, as rescue operations were conducted. Local authorities declared a state of emergency in six provinces: Esmeraldas, Los Rios, Manabi, Santa Elena, Guayas and Santo Domingo, and mobilized the National Guard. Meanwhile, about 10 thousand people, part of rescue groups are working to assist people trapped.
